Tune Swingers Perform That Old Black Magic

I once again had the pleasure of photographing the Tune Swingers Orchestra on mischief night. I was again amazed at the grace of the dancers and the fluid music.

I had my wife as a photo assistant as I had the chance to use some new lighting equipment including the Canon 580EX strobes and the ST-E2. It also coincided with our 4th wedding anniversary. It was great to get the chance to have her help me in my work world. She did a wonderful job providing a mobile strobe to add a rim light, side light and main light.

The verdict on the transmitters and slaves is they do a great job in tight quarters. The quality of light is optimal. It took me very little time to get the hang of adjusting the light ratios between two strobes.

I also had a set of 4 Alien Bees (800's) with Pocketwizard Multimaxes. It was great to finally have control of the lights from the transmitter as I had used only the Pluses in the past. I used honeycombs to reduce the spill light in such tight quarters. I had a set of 4 honeycombs varying between 10 and 40 degrees. If I had to do it again, I would of liked to have had 4 of the 40-degree honeycombs.

Lighting can be a lot of work but is quite rewarding.
